The American primary care system is under strain. The average physician appointment in the United States lasts 18 minutes. Primary care physicians carry patient panels of 2,000–2,500 people. The result is care that is reactive rather than preventive, rushed rather than thorough, and often fragmented from one visit to the next. MDVIP concierge medicine exists as a direct response to this reality — and Victory Medical has offered it as part of our practice since 2020.

What Is MDVIP Concierge Medicine?

MDVIP is the nation's largest concierge medicine network, with over 1,100 affiliated physicians across the country. The model works like this: in exchange for an annual membership fee (typically $1,800–$2,200), your physician reduces their patient panel from 2,000+ patients to approximately 600. This compression of panel size is the foundational change that enables everything else concierge medicine promises.

MDVIP membership is separate from and in addition to your health insurance, which remains active and continues to cover labs, specialist referrals, hospitalizations, and other services. The membership fee covers the enhanced access and personalized care model itself.

What Do MDVIP Members Actually Get?

The tangible benefits of MDVIP membership at Victory Medical include:

  • Same-day or next-day appointments — not the 3–6 week wait that has become standard in Austin primary care
  • Extended appointment times — 30–60 minute visits rather than the standard 15-18 minutes
  • Direct physician access — call or text your physician directly; no call center, no triage nurse as the only option
  • Comprehensive annual wellness exam — the MDVIP Wellness Program includes a 90-minute preventive visit with advanced bloodwork, cardiovascular risk screening, and a written personal health plan
  • After-hours availability — for urgent concerns that arise outside business hours
  • Continuity of care — you see the same physician at every visit, who knows your full history

The MDVIP Wellness Program

The centerpiece of MDVIP membership is the annual comprehensive wellness exam — a 90-minute visit that includes assessments most standard physicals do not routinely perform. These include:

  • Advanced cardiovascular risk assessment including cardiac calcium scoring referrals when indicated
  • Comprehensive metabolic and hormonal panels
  • Cognitive screening and early dementia risk assessment
  • Vision, hearing, and balance assessments
  • Personalized nutrition and fitness coaching integrated into the visit
  • A written, personalized health plan that serves as the basis for that year's care decisions

This proactive model is fundamentally different from standard primary care, which typically responds to problems rather than systematically screening for them. Many MDVIP members have had conditions identified — elevated cardiac calcium scores, early diabetes, thyroid dysfunction — that would not have been caught for years under standard care.

Who Is MDVIP Best Suited For?

MDVIP is not the right fit for every patient. It makes the most sense for:

  • Patients with complex or multiple chronic conditions who require frequent physician contact and careful coordination
  • Patients who have historically been frustrated by the pace and impersonality of standard primary care
  • Professionals whose time is valuable and who cannot afford 3-week appointment waits for issues that need prompt attention
  • Patients who are health-focused and want a proactive, preventive partnership rather than reactive sick visits
  • Older adults who benefit from the relationship continuity and comprehensive geriatric screening the program enables

For young, healthy patients with infrequent medical needs, the annual fee may not provide proportional value — and a standard Victory Medical primary care relationship may be a better fit.

Does Insurance Cover the MDVIP Fee?

The annual membership fee is typically not covered by standard health insurance, including Medicare. However, it may be eligible for payment through a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) — check with your plan administrator. Some employers include MDVIP membership as a voluntary benefit option. The underlying medical services delivered during MDVIP visits are still billed to insurance in the normal way; the fee covers the enhanced access model only.

Victory Medical's MDVIP Program

Victory Medical joined the MDVIP network in 2020 as part of our long-standing commitment to patient-centered care. Founded in 1996 by Dr. William Franklin with the philosophy that patients deserve to be treated as whole people — not as appointment slots — the MDVIP program aligns naturally with everything our practice has stood for since the beginning.
